In 1902, a group of Paraguayan boys led by Dutchman William Paats created a football team that would eventually become known as Club Olimpia. What these young men could never have imagined was that, a century later, the amateur team they started in the city of Asunción would become the most decorated club in the country and one of the most important in all of South America.
Olimpia’s first national trophy was won in 1912, and since then, they have won fifty-four domestic trophies. They have also made their mark outside of Paraguay, winning the Copa Libertadores three times and the Intercontinental Cup once.
One of their most remarkable achievements came in 1979, when Olimpia won every trophy they competed for in a single year. They secured the Paraguayan league title, the Copa Libertadores, the Copa Interamericana, and the Intercontinental Cup in what is now known as the “quadruple crown”. This magical season is a great source of pride for all Olimpia fans, a historic feat that is remembered with great reverence.
