Club Atlético San Lorenzo de Almagro, simply known as San Lorenzo, are one of the most iconic teams in Argentine football. Their history dates back to 1908 when they were founded in the Boedo neighbourhood of Buenos Aires by a group of young people with the help of Salesian priest Lorenzo Massa. This priest wanted to keep the youth away from the dangers of street life and opened the doors of the San Antonio Oratory for them to play sport. From there, the club grew and eventually became a prominent institution in the country.
Over the years, San Lorenzo have won numerous trophies that highlight their growth both domestically and further afield. Among their most notable achievements are fifteen top-flight titles and 1 Supercopa Argentina.
Furthermore, in 2002, San Lorenzo became the first-ever Copa Sudamericana champion. Another important achievement in their history was being the only Argentine team to win the Copa Mercosur.
In 2014, San Lorenzo achieved continental glory by winning the Copa Libertadores, which allowed them to compete in the FIFA Club World Cup that same year, where they reached the final. This achievement placed the club among the four Argentine teams to reach the final of a FIFA-organized international tournament, underlining their prestige in world football.
