Club Libertad are one of the most prominent and traditional teams in Paraguayan football. Founded on the 30th of July, 1905, by a group of sports enthusiasts, they have played a crucial role in the history of South American football.
According to the Paraguayan Football Association, Libertad’s first national championship was won in 1910. Since then, they have consistently won national competitions. To date, they have accumulated thirty-two domestic trophies, twenty-five of which were earned as champions of the first division of Paraguayan football.
The period between 1945 and 1955 was the golden age of Guarani football, and as always, Libertad were among the most powerful teams of the time.
After several years at the top, they were unfortunately relegated to the second division in 1998. The team went through a crisis for a few years until, after a brief restructuring process, they returned to the first division. Their comeback in the 2000s was incredible, as they won seven league titles in just ten years. Truly an amazing achievement!
Today, they remain a historic team that represents Paraguay in the best possible way. Their success is not limited to the domestic scene; they have also had notable performances in the Copa Libertadores (two semi-final appearances) and the Copa Sudamericana (three semi-final appearances).
